TEOTWAWKI, The End Of The World As We Know It is upon us. We are in the early stages, but the normal we had a year ago will not return in our lifetimes. We had a warning in Spring and have been granted a short reprieve, but it would be foolhardy to squander the next month.
Every analysis I read and see indicates The Change will get worse, soon… much, much worse, and frightfully soon. I share much of that at this website and will continue to do so.
Meanwhile, most of us agree that we have at least one good month to build our pantries. Few expect supplies to be as plentiful and easily accessed past October. Hardly any are expecting November and beyond to be easy, familiar, comfortable or reasonable.
Spend the next month pre-spending your pantry and consumable supply budget.
Social, economic, civil, government, business, banking … it is all likely to change, and not just a little.
Knowing that starving neighbors are not good, we need to consider that in our stocking up plans. This is the foundation for the Stone Soup Kitchen project.
The stone soup tale centers around a magical rock that is placed in a large cauldron. People bring whatever they can to add to the stone soup pot. Eventually they all eat nutritious soup that none of them could have produced alone. The magic of the stone is that it attracts donations that create the soup.
In much the same way, if each of us has something in our pantry or garden that we can donate to a community kitchen, the hungry get fed through anonymous donations, staving off both starvation and neighbor-upon-neighbor violence over food.
If you are in a position to, add large quantities of ‘Stone Soup’ ingredients to your stocking up plans.
Here is a flier I took to various churches, restaurants and other places with community-grade kitchen facilities five years ago. Wrong person, bad timing or something else prevented it from taking off. Maybe now. Perhaps YOU.

Stone Soup Kitchen Project
In case of disaster, The Bitterroot may be on its own for an extended time. Red Cross, FEMA and others will have their hands full in populated areas. It is up to us to prepare ourselves and our community.
Therefore, we need a way to feed ourselves as well as those who are unable to. There is no other way to get along with them … and cooperation is necessary for civilization to continue.
THE STONE SOUP KITCHENS will accept anonymous donations of food and turn it into nutritious meals for those who are hungry.
We stave off starvation so the community may work together on more important things.
TODAY you can talk to the people at those places who have volunteered to be sites for Stone Soup Kitchens, and hopefully help encourage them and others to participate.
TODAY you can store up beans, rice, grains, other staples and emergency gear to help long-term community survival.
Tomorrow brings what it will.
Hopefully our regrets will be small.
Please print one or more copies of this flier. Share the flier and concept with your neighbors and, particularly, anyone with a facility that could potentially be one of the Stone Soup Kitchens.
I tried to get this going five years ago: Stone Soup Kitchen Project. I may have been too far ahead of the problem to inspire participants… or maybe it still has to get uglier.
I hope not.
Stone Soup without other ingredients will be dreadfully unappealing.
