post card from Conner

Nov 12th viewThree days with the HIGH temperatures below freezing while lows bounce above and below zero … add a little snow into the mix and we have what I consider a sudden onslaught of winter.

I was clearly right in rushing to get stuff done before Sunday. Theoretically, I can throw logs on the fire, relax and watch the river freeze over. But momentum is a factor. I can’t shift to a laid-back, feet-up position that fast.

Still, it is pretty.

Here the river banks are creeping into the stream.
The surface is turning into a slurry.
Steam is rising in the minus-6-degree dawn
being captured in the branches of the riverside trees.
