knocking the dust off my wrenches

I am satisfied that my $1,000 offer on the BMW R1150RS motorcycle I used to own was reasonable, and that I will again end up enjoying that refined touring motorcycle that leans a bit towards the Sport/Touring class. Jeff dove into a wiring and electrical makeover that he never completed. There are parts missing from the BMW that may be challenging to replace. I will earn my ride when it finally hits the road again. The 2012 Suzuki Doctor Zee (DR Z400S) on the other hand appears to be one of those rare barn finds that always fall into someone else’s lap, not mine. See They followed me home. Can I keep them? I just completed my inspection, service and […]

My 11-day fast ends with fascinating health improvements

My hunger denial system broke down last night. Fasting experts often claim interest in food goes away after a few days of fasting and that your signal to end the fast is the return of hunger. I was ravenous last night. I called it to a close. Eyes, ears, nose and throat are all much healthier than a couple weeks ago. My double-handful of belly fat is now a single handful. The following is straight from my journal/fasting log: Personally, I can no longer imagine going to a very expensive petrochemical pharmaceutical dispensing expert to passively ingest whatever expensive side-effect-laden concoction he prescribes in hopes of curing my numerous health imbalances – when my body is amazingly well designed […]

Tennis tales from the only guy the coach couldn’t beat

My Dad loved tennis and gave me excellent private lessons. The skills and techniques he taught me were a great foundation. Tennis is a very fast-moving strategy and technique game that I was uniquely well suited for. In a graduating class of 1,000 and a school of almost 3,000 students, I was not only among the smallest boys there, I was the third best tennis player in the school … including the tennis coach in that pool. Among the more important bits in tennis are hitting the ball where your opponent is not, making it as difficult as possible for him to return the ball, striving to keep him off balance, doing the unexpected… an undercut short shot just […]

Starting another FAST – May 28, 2022

It was not intended to be an annual ritual, but is inadvertently turning out that way. I will catalog the numerous surprising benefits of fasting, my motivation and a wealth of fasting knowledge over the next few days, perhaps weeks. My body has ordered one, so I will comply. This video on the right is an introduction to my fast, and a bit on why I am undertaking it. More links, videos and information can be found at TedDunlap.net and BitterrootBugle.com I fasted in August of 2020, again in August 2021, and am adding this one for much more serious reasons than the mild desire to lose some weight and perhaps learn first-hand about the detoxification benefits of nine […]

Light Up The Firehalls – May 2022

For several months now the Corvallis American Legion amateur radio club subsection has been operating field exercises from various volunteer fire department firehalls throughout our county – the area we fondly call “The Bitterroot”. Our long-term goal for this program is for KG7SPL to be a backup communication service for the volunteer fire departments of Ravalli County. The VFDs are the core of emergency response in The Bitterroot. They are located in every area, have agreed-upon coverage maps and can muster 20 or more active, skilled volunteers in a matter of minutes. Our route to providing comms backup involves a monthly exercises of our equipment and operators from the VFD stations. We go live at 1300 hrs local (1:00 […]

NASA High Performance Driver Education (HPDE)

My big deal of the decade, several decades, and in particular this year was two days of flat-out driving on a road racing course. I share my journaling of it with you here. I spent last weekend at the Utah Motorsports Complex (UMC) on and around their road course. It was created by a local tycoon to exercise his vast collection of vintage race cars in the company of fellow enthusiasts. In other words, a track facility developed by an enthusiast FOR enthusiasts. Most of us were built for something; having unique strengths and interests where we are slightly or noticeably better than most. My natural exceptionalism seems to be high performance driving. Though life did not hand me […]

Gone Fishing

Normally clear studio surfaces speak of a cluttered life I am pulling out of my garage in one week… heading south to Utah Motorsports Complex for National Auto Sports Association’s March Madness. I am transitioning from The Beast to a much nicer, newer Z-71 optioned Suburban, The Z-Wagon. The Beast had an antenna farm on the back 1/3 of its roof and capability of running half a dozen amateur radios at a time on numerous different frequencies. I am putting some time, thought, energy and money into adding one multi-band radio to The Z-Wagon. Additionally there are numerous mechanical fix-ups that go with replacement vehicles. I initiated and had to manage a local emergency-preparedness radio exercise I called “Light Up […]

unfettered, con-brio driving

I have registered for “March Madness” March 26th-27th in High Performance Driver Education group 1 (HPDE 1), which is the only option for drivers who have not driven with NASA previously and who do not possess a race car driver’s license. In this group we have an instructor who shows us the track in their car, then rides along in ours making sure we understand the rules, the track and how to drive where there are no speed limits, overtaking only where allowed. At some point along the way, first timers shed the ride-along added weight, but are still watched a bit for adherence to expected norms. Early March 25th, I expect to unload into Garage #7 which I reserved […]

The Road Taken

We all do it – That is, look back at decisions made, actions taken, paths we followed that could have been chosen or handled differently. I know I am not the only one regretting mistakes made, insults given, opportunities missed. I have liked to remind myself that the other path could well have had me run over by a train. We play the hand we were dealt. Another is not among the choices available. I also consider myself to be in a good position, location and time. As ugly as things are for those choosing to see the darkness instead of light, we are living exciting times. We get to find out what we are made of, and extend […]

Ted the 3-legged dog

You may have noticed my dearth of posts here. I have been working on myself; leaving the cockroaches to scatter while others shine lights on the evil they have been spreading. I often feel that those who are asleep cannot be awakened, while the level five people don’t need any more help. Then I notice that my posts do have readers and my videos do get watched. I suppose my vacation is over… I’m back. My wife recently had the first acupuncture experience of her life. The good doctor helped her noticeably with a couple of issues pharmacopoeia medicine had not. She enthusiastically made an appointment for me. He called to set it up. I told him I didn’t […]

finding the calm in the storm

So much of what I see, read, hear, fight against … so much of my world and what I share here is about the evil forces and their assault on everything we appreciate about our world. Once in a while a supremely positive note comes my way. I need those. You probably do as well. As I read the mantra below I was inspired to do as it instructed. But where? Where in my current world is the right place to connect with my spirituality, nature, the cosmos …? Recalling when I was most at peace and in harmony with the natural world took me to the Pacific Coast. Walking, jogging, laying and playing on the sandy beaches with […]

8 Day FAST – lessons, experience

It is over. I made a gourmet stew that waited in the crock pot for my wife to get home from her vacation at an unknown afternoon-evening time. It was excellent. Turns out I really like food. ๐Ÿ˜‰ It was not easy. I do not recommend what I did, known as an extended water-only fast. Most of the important results can be had with more convenient, accessible options that I outline below and in the video to the right. I know of no other person who has deliberately denied themselves food beyond one day. It is, however, a healing tool far more valuable than having your own personal MD on call. Extremely rare is the person who succeeds in fasting […]
