For my heading, I purposefully modified NC Scout’s bestselling book title that I am discussing in this post. The Guerrilla’s Guide To The Baofeng Radio goes far beyond the make/model amateur radio he recommends in it. I and a fellow active licensed radio operator (HAM) took a local class from him a few years ago. It was extremely informative and valuable. I expect this book to have much of what we learned in that class, and quite a bit more packed into it. I have ordered my own copy, so this is a recommendation in advance of being able to review it, based on what I know of the author and of the subject matter. He created and operates Brushbeater […]
Disgusted with social media, Andrew Torba quit helping them, quit lucrative employment on their behalf and built GAB.COM, a great competitor that has grown exponentially since its founding in 2016. According to their website, “Founded in 2016, Gab is a social media network that upholds freedom of speech and information.” It is MUCH MORE THAN THAT. Andrew has built a team, is continuing to grow that team, and is providing great tools to Internet users who have been wounded and suppressed by the media giants. “Jack The Giant Killer” jumped into my head. They aren’t dead yet, but at least we GAB.COM users are not feeding them and being fed by them. Today I found the post below from […]
For several months now the Corvallis American Legion amateur radio club subsection has been operating field exercises from various volunteer fire department firehalls throughout our county – the area we fondly call “The Bitterroot”. Our long-term goal for this program is for KG7SPL to be a backup communication service for the volunteer fire departments of Ravalli County. The VFDs are the core of emergency response in The Bitterroot. They are located in every area, have agreed-upon coverage maps and can muster 20 or more active, skilled volunteers in a matter of minutes. Our route to providing comms backup involves a monthly exercises of our equipment and operators from the VFD stations. We go live at 1300 hrs local (1:00 […]
I am one of those fixed-income retirees of modest means that you hear about from time to time. I have not quite figured me out, but I am working on it. I enjoy puttering in my woodshop, metalshop, inventor/creator space. I also like playing trombone, upright bass and elementary artistic painting … and a few other hands-on-type things, mostly creative. What I do with much of my time instead is what I consider to be my community service… rewarding in their own ways of course, but not quite as much FUN. In that category are the classes I taught through the Darby Adult Education program to help people earn and upgrade their amateur radio licenses, understand Linux operating systems, […]
I happened to be listening on the scanner Jeff programmed for me in exchange for some stuff I did for him. An emergency evolved starting with “a man fell, hit his head, is not breathing, CPR is ongoing”. I realized I knew the location well, the man, and the other people directly involved. I made a phone call to a mutual friend who would be in a better position to take useful action, find more information, or actually execute a worthy response. I listened as the situation transitioned through several steps to “coroner called”, and knew I had just lost a friend. I don’t know if the information sequence was good for me or not, but it did hit […]
Mainstream media, mainstream medical, big pharma, all government … let’s just call them “the usual suspects” do not want you to watch this video. It is crucial to your health and those around you that you do indeed watch it. I absolutely guarantee it will be worth it. I have another related one I will share at Bitterroot Bugle, but not now. I do not want to distract from this one in any way. I’ll put it up tomorrow. Watch this one first and foremost. The other one is short and related. Below I share the entire article from the source where I found it. Come back to those links and the text later. FIRST, watch the five doctors share […]
I cannot come up with “a worst part” of the false narrative the powerful have foisted on us. Certainly shutting down all small businesses and social interaction could qualify. All the little people accepted an emergency 12-day shutdown to break the cycle. That morphed into “Gee I sure hope they let us out of our little cells soon.” Something that is just beginning to happen a full year later. Why are THEY ALLOWING US to come out of our caves now? Because the people are demanding it. Nothing else has changed. The pressure has built to near-revolutionary levels. The powerful people recognize the threat. If we come out on our own, their era as rulers is OVER. “Quick. Grant […]
This will be the first time I have participated in the annual Winter Field Day. I suppose it sounded difficult. It is incredibly easy for any amateur radio operator anywhere to participate at some level. Sure you can pitch a tent in the snow on some mountain-top for the weekend, but you can also sign up and run right out of your normal radio shack – or anywhere in between. All operators are welcome to join in at whatever level suits their situation and inclination. This year the Bitterroot Emergency Amateur Radio Services group, now officially the Corvallis American Legion Post 91 radio club KG7SPL will be running two radio stations in a tent at the top of the […]
For hundreds of reasons and seasons, Christmas has been a wonderful family fun day for nearly all of my life. Irrespective of the religious foundation which is the real reason for the season, it has always been about family and sharing each other, thinking about the others and doing what we can to give happiness. The best ones started months ahead of time, traversing from thinking about the others, creating a special gift idea, assembling, fabricating and wrapping all with tender loving care. Then we see the joy that our thoughtfulness created and carry that warm reward in our memory bank for … a very long time … . […]
I sent this to family who are not operating on the same page as I am. I think you will understand as you read on. I had difficulty sleeping last night after our family ZOOM meeting. I love you guys too much to watch the show dispassionately. Masks, social distancing, and the next parts of the show are destroying your beautiful lives, families and communities for no good reason. Normal is not in our future. Worse is coming. I wish more people were psychologically, physically and spiritually prepared for the new world order. Family and community will be crucial. COVID, masks, lockdowns and “social distancing” are a deliberately implemented psychological operation to make that as difficult as possible. Knowledge and […]
While I wrote most of this to a specific individual, it does have much broader implications. Therefore I adjusted slightly and share it here. You might assume that I am arrogant, don’t respect your opinions, or do not comprehend your world view. I believe those would all be incorrect assumptions. Most of what I know about how the world works I began learning after my last child left my shelter. I know now what I have learned since they left my home PLUS what I knew before. My memory is not gone. In my 20s and 30s I read local newspapers plus Newsweek and Time magazines. Over the years I watched thousands of mainstream news shows. It was a well-presented […]
The trials and tribulations that are rapidly approaching us will not be long-term survivable by individuals. Any hope we have will be founded in strong communities. To that end, I am DOING SOMETHING. That is obviously a whole bunch better than hiding in a foxhole, wringing hands, aimlessly worrying or ignoring a great impending ugliness. This certainly will not be the first time I tried community organizing in Darby, Montana. I suspect my “Sky Is Falling” warning is much more widely understood this time. For print-out purposes, here is the same flier as a .pdf: Neighborhood Darby flier On a related subject: How to Start A Neighborhood Watch Group […]
