2006 Idaho governor candidate debate

Seeing Ron Paul championing my main 2006 campaign theme a decade later inspired me to look for this video. I couldn’t find it at the PBS website, so I uploaded a copy I had saved years ago. Debating in front of television cameras live to a state-wide audience was a terrifying to do, but probably the best performance of my political career. My biggest campaign theme was liberal tax credits for scholarships to private schools equal to a maximum of half what taxpayers spend on government schools. We would save money while liberating education. It was a good idea then. It still is.

governor campaign inquiry – response

E-mail to Ted Dunlap for Montana Governor with response below. Greetings Mr. Dunlap, (received 8/28/2016) I suppose I need a little information which you should be able to provide. 1. How many Montanans are Libertarians in the Montana Libertarian party? 2. Who is your running mate as the Lt. Governor? 3. Who is your campaign manager? 4. How many counties have you covered in the state? 5. When was the Montana Libertarian party convention and where was it held and how many attended? 6. What bills are you proposing for the state of Montana? 7. What do you think about Universal Military Training? 8. What do you think about Montana National Guard? 9. Did you serve in the Military Ted? […]

question for the governor candidates

From the Great Falls Tribune: I have a question for you. We have a big LGBT event in Great Falls this weekend and my editors have asked me to pose this question: In the wake of Sunday’s shooting in Orlando, does the governor think that Montana is tolerant toward LGBT people here? Are there enough protections in place for the LGBT people? —————————— Phil, thank you for the opportunity to share my views of this situation. I truly appreciate it. The people of Montana are as tolerant of other people as anywhere in this country. There has been, and continues to be a deliberate effort to subdivide us into ever-smaller factions, then pit those factions against each other. We have […]

Ted Dunlap for governor

I just developed a half-page, two-sided handout for my campaign. It covers three main points that I could impact in a highly positive way were I to win the election. Moreover, if my campaign attracts significant interest and generates excitement in these three ideas, mainstream candidates and mainstream media would take notice. Thus, every bit you help and every time you share moves these three ideas more into mainstream focus. Here is a link to a .pdf of it. I encourage you to print them two sided, then cut in half vertically. Distribute liberally in your area of operation. Ted’s Triad handout I also encourage you to send a check. I will print and share a bunch of them. Below […]

introducing Ted Dunlap for governor

Ravalli Republic reporter Perry Backus visited with me for an hour and a half last Thursday. It was a pleasant, amiable conversation. I felt good about him and trusted his integrity to treat my candidacy fairly. I was right. Towards the end of our chat, Perry suggested I show him “my thinking rock” where he did the clickity-clickity-click-click thing with his full-pro camera. With dozens of photos to choose from, he surely could have caught me looking worse than average. But the photo he published is very nice. The article he wrote, published in over half a dozen syndicated newspapers in Montana, also treats me kindly and respectfully. I really appreciate that … and respect Perry for it. He […]

governor race 2010

It is a challenging thing to do. This was my second trip facing the state-wide TV cameras in four years. I did like this one better for the 350-person live audience, giving me humans to talk to. However the debate between two of us facing only cameras and crew in 2006 allowed for a lot more thoughtfulness from each of us and better expression of our differing points of view. The one thing that did not change was the racing pulse and difficulty bringing the right thoughts out in a coherent way. I came away with a bunch of shoulda-said’s and critical self-analysis, but have come to feel I did okay for who I am and what I represent. You […]

Idaho governor race 2006

I ran for governor in 2006. The debates that Idaho public TV and the League of Women Voters put on were first class. The two candidates who qualified and chose to debate on Idaho-wide live television put on a show that the studio crew LOVED. Being in front of live state-wide TV cameras was definitely intense. Public speaking is challenging for even experienced veterans and I certainly am not that. Nevertheless, my ideas and principles came through. I think they are relevant still today to who I am and what I stand for. The results were essentially as expected: The Republican won with 237,437 votes, the Democrat garnered 198,845 while the politically-unknown barely-financed working-stiff Libertarian drew 14,550 votes. While […]

scamdemic SHUT-DOWN

I cannot come up with “a worst part” of the false narrative the powerful have foisted on us. Certainly shutting down all small businesses and social interaction could qualify. All the little people accepted an emergency 12-day shutdown to break the cycle. That morphed into “Gee I sure hope they let us out of our little cells soon.” Something that is just beginning to happen a full year later. Why are THEY ALLOWING US to come out of our caves now? Because the people are demanding it. Nothing else has changed. The pressure has built to near-revolutionary levels. The powerful people recognize the threat. If we come out on our own, their era as rulers is OVER. “Quick. Grant […]

dropping out

I sent this to family who are not operating on the same page as I am. I think you will understand as you read on. I had difficulty sleeping last night after our family ZOOM meeting. I love you guys too much to watch the show dispassionately. Masks, social distancing, and the next parts of the show are destroying your beautiful lives, families and communities for no good reason. Normal is not in our future. Worse is coming. I wish more people were psychologically, physically and spiritually prepared for the new world order. Family and community will be crucial. COVID, masks, lockdowns and “social distancing” are a deliberately implemented psychological operation to make that as difficult as possible. Knowledge and […]

Ravalli health officer unhappy in a republic

The Ravalli County Public Health Officer is fully resigned to her ignorance of the ineffectiveness of masks against Coronavirus and the well-documented negative health effects on wearers. Fortunately, she has also resigned from a local position of influence in that area of her ineptitude. from the Ravalli Republic Dr. Carol Calderwood gave Ravalli County Commissioners a letter of resignation over the weekend as the county’s public health officer of 13 years, stating she feels she has been placed in “another no-win situation by the locally elected officials’ decision to disobey the Governor’s directives without my input.” The resignation letter followed a July 15 directive from Gov. Steve Bullock requiring indoor mask wearing for every county with more than four […]

visualize liberty

Imagine what this country would look like if we had begun electing Libertarians 14 years ago. I gave Idaho my best shot, which may not have been all that much in the end, but Idahoans really did have a choice with serious beneficial potential that year. I tripped over this show recently, realizing that was a good debate and presentation of ideas that would have made very real differences. In 2006 I did some traveling around the state as the Libertarian candidate for Idaho governor, a relatively tiny bit of fund-raising, produced some campaign literature, and dressed myself for mass-market appeal. – He cleans up nicely – 😉 When the League of Women Voters announced the upcoming state-wide broadcast of […]

The Bitterroot Bugle Story

I began blogging, that is self-publishing Idaholiberty.com on the Internet in 2007. At the time, I was chairman of the Idaho Libertarian Party, growing it to its largest membership in 35 years, eventually twice a candidate for Idaho governor – very active politically, culturally, and doing my best to share knowledge. “The Blogosphere” seemed like a great tool … still does. In 2013 I found myself no longer tethered to Idaho’s Treasure Valley. Montana’s Bitterroot Valley had caught my interest long before. In March I found a cabin in Conner that was to become our foothold in this area and by June we had completed the move. You can see in my series Post Card From Conner, it is […]
