Ted’s essays

Ted Dunlap biography

I am independent, thoughtful and creative. My word is my bond. I feel the most important thing a man has is his honor. Nobody can take it from you, but those who give their honor away don’t deserve it, or the respect of honest men. I earned everything I have with hard work and careful husbandry. I am industrious, practical and generous. I strongly resent anyone who wants to take life, liberty or property from me or anyone else under any guise whatsoever. Over a decade ago I selected Idaho for the spirit of personal responsibility that was more a part of this culture than in most western states. My political activism from 2000 on has been devoted to fostering […]

Kuna police services

Several of the non-incumbent candidates are strongly challenging the cost of Kuna’s existing police services. Me too. Take a glance at the bottom of the page for a list of personnel and salaries that we contract from Ada County. Past mayor and current mayoral candidate Greg Nelson and I are both open to a review and excited about the potential for budgetary savings simultaneous with service improvements. There are three good options with several variations within them. Option 1: Request proposals from nearby police agencies including Nampa, Owyhee County, Canyon County and others. Option 2: Request proposal from Ada County in light of the proposals received from others above. Option 3: Working with local, experienced law enforcement administrators, develop a […]

I have been publishing my opinions and analysis on politics, government, economics, business, culture and more at IdahoLiberty.com since May of 2007. In April of this year I created a website to focus on the environment of liberty in Ada County. Threats to our freedom and antidotes are discussed with links from there to a wide range of informative websites. I recruited some local authors to lend their analysis to that I contribute to Ada Liberty .com. I encourage you to look around. You can select by categories listed on the right side column and follow the blogroll links to my favorite educational sites below it.

governor race 2010

It is a challenging thing to do. This was my second trip facing the state-wide TV cameras in four years. I did like this one better for the 350-person live audience, giving me humans to talk to. However the debate between two of us facing only cameras and crew in 2006 allowed for a lot more thoughtfulness from each of us and better expression of our differing points of view. The one thing that did not change was the racing pulse and difficulty bringing the right thoughts out in a coherent way. I came away with a bunch of shoulda-said’s and critical self-analysis, but have come to feel I did okay for who I am and what I represent. You […]

Idaho governor race 2006

I ran for governor in 2006. The debates that Idaho public TV and the League of Women Voters put on were first class. The two candidates who qualified and chose to debate on Idaho-wide live television put on a show that the studio crew LOVED. Being in front of live state-wide TV cameras was definitely intense. Public speaking is challenging for even experienced veterans and I certainly am not that. Nevertheless, my ideas and principles came through. I think they are relevant still today to who I am and what I stand for. The results were essentially as expected: The Republican won with 237,437 votes, the Democrat garnered 198,845 while the politically-unknown barely-financed working-stiff Libertarian drew 14,550 votes. While […]
